Gill Civil Engineering were procured as a key specialist contractor on the Bristol Guided Busway by Balfour Beatty.

Aided by Gill’s prompt involvement, the design was developed for the Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) Guided Busway and Gill reacted well to change and design development. Their can-do approach was well received and all parties involved contributed to the successful completion of a pioneering Guided Busway.

Balfour Beatty would have no hesitation to recommend Gill Civil Engineering for any CRCP pavement works. 

• Quality Management – BBS were very pleased with the effort and commitment shown by the Gill team in the run up to, and during, the assessment from our Notified Body Horiba MIRA. The audit was completed at the first time of asking with no concerns.
  
  
• Trial Installation – BBS noted that the quality of CSB produced was of the highest standard with particular reference to dimensional stability and appearance. It was also noted the installation team were highly trained and competent at their respective tasks.
  
  
• Overall pre-qualification – Gill Civil obtained their Provisional Licence within 7 months, this was well within the typical timeframe of 12-18 months.

Gill Civil exceeded the expectations of BBS in terms of demonstrating a level of competence and quality within a short period of time. We expect that this was carried over from a wealth of experience within the slipforming industry over many years globally. It was reassuring that Gill Civil adopted to the BBS requirements and specifications without issue and we were delighted to welcome the company as a Licensed Installer.

Costain engaged Gill as our key subcontractor on the project to replace the defective paving at Felixstowe South Reconfiguration Phase 1 with PQC.  The importance of Gill is emphasised by the fact that it accounted for approximately 50% of the value of the repair contract.

Throughout the project, Gill provided Costain with excellent service and were motivated and co-operative.  Gill also paid high regard to safety, which was particularly important in a busy, “live” Port environment with a high risk from vehicular traffic and moving cranes.  Gill’s staff and operatives were an integral part of the project team and were a pleasure to work with.

The project was completed 6 months ahead of the original programme and within the original budget and Gill’s contribution is recognised and highly valued by Costain.

Gill Civil Engineering recently worked alongside Skanska M25 Pavement Renewals team and during this time they have carried out their duties both diligently and safely. They have a positive and innovated approach and go that extra mile to promote safe working for both their operatives and the wider site team. Their in-house capability to provide specialist plant through Titan Plant Hire and on-site concrete using Britannia Onsite Concrete ensured a smooth operation on site when working in a small confined environment with limited working windows.

I am just writing this short message to thank Gill Civil Engineering and their team for the level of input and collaboration that was demonstrated during the recent repairs to the damaged ECP on the M25. I know that it was a relatively complicated job given the restrictions on us and the fact that it was the transition between the CSB and the ECP.
