(BWF) Infrastructure Upgrade

Gill Civil is delivering 5,240m² of 175mm thick C40/50 reinforced concrete, incorporating 5,240m² of A393 mesh, as part of the Walney Airfield project in Barrow-in-Furness. The works form part of the wider airfield development, providing a durable pavement solution designed to support operational requirements and long-term performance.

Works are being undertaken adjacent to a live airfield and around newly constructed hangars and associated infrastructure, requiring strict safety controls and careful coordination of activities. The project demands precise sequencing and close collaboration with suppliers to ensure consistent concrete output and quality, particularly in the face of adverse weather conditions. Effective planning and communication have been essential to maintaining programme progress within a constrained and safety-critical environment.

Through proactive planning, strong supply chain coordination, and experienced delivery teams, the project is progressing in line with programme requirements. The works are delivering a high-quality, durable reinforced concrete pavement, supporting timely handover and enhancing the operational capability of the airfield.
