Project Overview and Scope
Gill Civil delivered 6,500m² of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) and installed 64 ground beam anchors as part of a 1.2-mile guided busway between Long Ashton and Ashton Avenue Bridge, Bristol. The scheme formed a key element of the wider transport infrastructure, designed to improve connectivity and provide a reliable, high-capacity public transport route.
Challenges and Execution
The guided busway system required construction within very tight tolerances to ensure precise alignment, correct levels, and safe vehicle tracking. Works were undertaken during winter under challenging weather and logistical conditions, requiring careful sequencing and consistent quality control. Close coordination with Balfour Beatty and the concrete supply chain ensured materials, plant, and programme requirements were aligned, enabling efficient delivery while maintaining the required construction accuracy.
Benefits and Outcomes
The project significantly enhanced local transport infrastructure, delivering a high-precision, durable CRCP solution capable of supporting long-term operational demands. Despite seasonal and logistical challenges, the works were completed on programme, providing a resilient and low-maintenance pavement that ensures safe, smooth, and reliable guided bus operations.
