Gill Civil was appointed by Amalgamated Construction Limited to deliver landside pavement and infrastructure works for Pier 2 Phase 2 at Manchester Airport (May 2024 – April 2025). The package included installation of 175mm Wet Lean Concrete (WLC) and up to 350mm Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) pavements, reinforced oncrete slabs, slot drainage and associated pipework, as well as access and outlet chambers. Works were supported by on-site batching facilities and UKAS-accredited concrete testing to ensure consistent quality and compliance.

Working within a live airport environment required strict safety compliance, detailed stakeholder coordination, and careful sequencing alongside multiple contractors and ongoing operations. The scale of concrete volumes and the requirement for high-performance finishes demanded precise logistics, robust quality control procedures, and continuous monitoring. Effective planning, on-site production capability, and close collaboration with the wider project team ensured programme requirements were maintained while minimising disruption.

The project was delivered safely and on programme, providing durable,
high-quality pavements and drainage infrastructure that enhance access,
circulation, and operational efficiency around the terminal. The completed works support long-term performance and demonstrate Gill Civil’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure projects within live airport environments.
