DIRFT III – Lorry Park

Gill Civil was appointed by Buckingham Group Contracting to deliver 18,000m² of external concrete yard slabs for the DIRFT III Lorry Park in Northampton (Sep–Oct 2021). The works formed part of the expansion of the DIRFT logistics hub, supporting major distribution facilities. Scope included final trimming of sub-base, installation of formwork and reinforcement, dowelled joints, and placement of 190mm thick C32/40 (air-entrained) concrete, supported by UKAS-accredited testing to ensure quality and compliance.

The project was delivered within a busy logistics site with multiple contractors operating simultaneously, requiring careful coordination and planning to maintain productivity. Works were also undertaken during adverse weather conditions, presenting challenges for concrete placement and quality control. Close collaboration with the readymix supplier, combined with efficient sequencing and site management, ensured consistent concrete supply and maintained programme progress despite these constraints.

The works were completed ahead of programme, delivering a durable, high-quality concrete yard suitable for heavy logistics use. Effective planning and coordination ensured minimal disruption within a multi-contractor environment, demonstrating Gill Civil’s ability to deliver efficiently under challenging site conditions.
