PART OF THE GILL GROUP
Project Overview and Scope
Gill Civil, in partnership with John Graham Construction, delivered over 220,000m² of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) for major dock and RoRo terminal infrastructure. The works included construction of 175mm, 200mm, and 250mm thick concrete slabs (C40/50 and C50), reinforced with bespoke mesh and incorporating specialist joint detailing. The scope also included installation of over 160 chambers and manholes, forming a high-performance pavement designed for heavy-duty port operations.
Challenges and Execution
Significant daily output targets required the establishment of on-site batching plants producing up to 400m³ of concrete per day, supported by UKAS-accredited testing in partnership with PACT. Custom formwork ensured CRCP reinforcement continuity, while efficient sequencing and coordination managed logistics, weather conditions, and a complex multicontractor environment across a large working area.
Benefits and Outcomes
The project was delivered safely and efficiently, providing a durable, high strength pavement capable of supporting intensive operational demands. Strong planning, in-house production, and quality control ensured consistent performance, demonstrating Gill Civil’s capability to deliver large-scale, complex infrastructure to high standards of safety, quality, and programme control.
