PART OF THE GILL GROUP
Project Overview and Scope
Gill Civil was appointed by Galliford Try to deliver the rehabilitation of Taxiway Quebec at East Midlands Airport. The works included removal and reinstatement of pavement quality concrete (PQC), lean concrete, surface water drainage systems, and sub-base layers, alongside installation of AGL systems, land drains, and Gatic slot drainage. The scheme formed a key part of maintaining and upgrading critical airfield infrastructure to support ongoing operations.
Challenges and Execution
Delivered within a live airside environment, the project required coordinated day and night operations to meet programme deadlines while maintaining strict safety compliance. Breakout of existing pavement, drainage replacement, ducting installation, sub-base reconstruction, and staged concrete placement were carefully sequenced to ensure efficient delivery. Close coordination with airport stakeholders and rigorous planning enabled works to progress while maintaining operational continuity.
Benefits and Outcomes
The scheme successfully restored structural performance and improved drainage efficiency of the taxiway, enhancing long-term durability and resilience. Delivered safely and in line with programme requirements, the project maintained uninterrupted airport operations while providing a compliant, high-quality pavement solution.
